Dubai Golden Shaheen Preview
Mar 30 2012
ROCKET MAN (SI) F Coetzee
International superstar who won this race last year. Failed in the G1 Hong Kong Sprint in December but much better than that. Hard to beat.
HAPPY DUBAI (UAE) J Murtagh
Meydan specialist but outclassed in last year’s G1 Krisflyer Sprint in Singapore and this looks too rich for him again.
GIANT RYAN (USA) W Martinez
Class US sprinter who won 4 straight at Belmont Park and Aqueduct before no luck when a close-up eighth in the G1 Breeders Cup Sprint. Don’t underestimate him.
RUSSIAN ROCK (UAE) W Smith
Won his past 2 at Jebel Ali but looks way out of his depth here.
KRYPTON FACTOR (UK) K Fallon
Easily beat the talented Hitchens in a G3 here last time and goes well here. Place chance.
HITCHENS (UK) S De Sousa
Class sprinter. Third in last year’s G1 July Cup at Newmarket and beat Krypton Factor here before running second to that horse. Chance at odds.
THE FACTOR (USA) R Bejarano
Query runner. Class American but better known over longer trips. Failed in the Breeders Cup Dirt Mile but won his past 2 starts. Attracting a lot of money so keep an eye on him.
IVER BRIDGE LAD (UK) M O’Connell
Unplaced past 2 here and this is much tougher. Passing.
SEPOY (AUS) K McEvoy
Last year’s Blue Diamond and Golden Slipper winner and rated the world’s best 3yo sprinter. Champion Australian who ran a great run under a big weight in the G1 Oakleigh Plate and our sprinters are historically the best in the world. The one to beat.
INXILE (UK) A Nicholls
Placed past 2 here weaker great after running last in the 2011 Nunthorpe. This looks too hard.
SOUL (UAE) L Dettori
Former Aussie who has a Flemington win over Buffering and easily beat Invincible Ash here last start. Place chance.
LUCKY NINE (HK) B Prebble
Outstanding HK sprinter who won the G1 Hong Kong Sprint in December and the G1 Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup earlier this month. Great chance.
Shane McNally’s selections:
12 Lucky Nine
3 Giant Ryan
1 Rocket Man
