Missed the start badly and ran home hard when third to Genuine Leader over 1200m at Happy Valley on Wednesday night – and in one more stride, would have grabbed second. It was a very encouraging run from a horse with a lot of talent, capable of picking up a win in the near future.
NZ Rollout The Carpet
Threw away the G1 Diamond Stakes at Ellerslie on Saturday in the most dramatic circumstances imaginable when she ran all over the track in the final 200m. The Holy Roman Emperor filly finished first past the post ahead of Warhorse but was never going to defend the protest, even though one suspects she would have won if she hadn’t gone wayward. If she improves her manners – and she needs to – she will win plenty of races.
SI Tropical Forest
Lot to like about his run when he beat all but despised outsider Pacino in an 1100m Class 3 at Kranji last Friday night. The 5yo son of Enforcer hasn’t been disgraced lately but that was his best run for a couple of months and he tends to hold form when he finds it. He’s the winner of 4 from 15 and can add to that soon.
HK Travel King
Outstanding effort to make up many lengths in the straight when sixth to Planet over 1200m at Sha Tin on Saturday. Was near the tail throughout and about 10 lengths off them at the 400m mark but his finishing effort suggests the 5yo can finally break back on to the winning list after 2 years without success. Could be great value next time out at 1400m.
