Lucinda Doodt to ride Jungle Edge in Dash

SYDNEY Jun 18 2019

Victorian apprentice Lucinda Doodt has got the call to ride grand sprinter Jungle Edge in the Winter Dash at Randwick.

Doodt claims three kilograms which will bring Jungle Edge into Saturday's 1200m-race with 59.5kg.

The Mick Bell-trained Jungle Edge will be backing up a week after claiming victory at Sandown with Michael Poy aboard.

Noted for his front-running style and affinity for wet tracks, Jungle Edge is topweight for the Winter Dash with Brave Song next on 61kg.

Doodt has ridden the gelding once when they finished second to Order Of Command at Caulfield on May 11.

Order Of Command franked the form with a Listed win at his next start in the Straight Six at Flemington.

The Winter Dash received a boost on Tuesday with last-start winners Passage Of Time and Deprive added as late entries.

The Joe Pride-trained Passage Of Time won at Rosehill on Saturday while Godolphin's Deprive was successful a week earlier.

Deprive is also nominated for the Group Three Healy Stakes at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Leading trainer Chris Waller does not have a runner in the Winter Dash but there will be much interest again in two-year-old Funstar who runs against her own age group over 1200m.

A half sister to the 2018 Queensland Oaks winner Youngstar, also trained by Waller, Funstar was an impressive Canterbury winner on debut on June 5.

The filly won against two and three-year-olds to give Adelaide, the 2014 Cox Plate winner, his first winner as a sire fro limited numbers to race.

Waller is convinced Funstar has the talent to become a top-liner after she beat her year-older stablemate Tawaret by 3-1/4 lengths.

There are 17 entries for the juvenile race.
