Cormack links with trainer Tony Gollan

BRISBANE Apr 11 2019

Group One-winning jockey Sean Cormack gets the chance to reignite his career by linking with premier trainer Tony Gollan at Eagle Farm.

Cormack has ridden about 1500 winners in his native South Africa, Australia and Asia.

He originally came to Australia to ride for the late Bruce McLachlan at the Sunshine Coast in 2008 and decided to resettle there when he returned to Australia two years ago.

He was re-establishing himself in Queensland when he injured his knee in an accident at Ipswich in May.

The injury was worse than originally thought and Cormack did not resume riding until last month.

Cormack rode his first winner back in the saddle when Smartypy won at Ipswich on Wednesday.

He has been riding trackwork for Gollan and has been rewarded with the rides on Chico Milargo and Dream Kisses for the premier trainer.

"Sean has been riding plenty of work and he did some riding for me before he got hurt," Gollan said.

"My regular rider Brad Stewart has taken a suspension so it gives Sean a chance. There will be other opportunities for him down the track."

Cormack rode Chico Milargo, who is one of the more interesting runners of the day, in a jump-out on Tuesday.

Chico Milargo, who has also trialled twice, was a $280,000 buy at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Gollan has elected to use apprentice Baylee Nothdurft's claim on dual winner Epaumada in the fillies division of the two-year-old handicap.

"She won a Doomben trial last month and we have given her a good break with the winter in mind," Gollan said..

"This is the first step to the winter and she is pretty smart."

Gollan looks like having another strong two-year-old season next year and has been active at the yearling sales with his latest purchase a $300,000 half sister to stable star Zoustyle at the Inglis Easter Sale this week.
