NZ Group One winner Valley Girl retired

SYDNEY Aug 30 2016

New Zealand Group One winner Valley Girl has been forced into premature retirement after suffering a stress fracture.

As a three-year-old last season, Valley Girl won the weight-for-age Herbie Dyke Stakes and later finished second to Single Gaze in the Vinery Stud Stakes at Randwick.

Co-trainer Donna Logan ordered tests on the mare after she finished last in Saturday's Makfi Stakes at Hastings.

Logan said x-rays showed a fracture of the radial bone and, although it would heal, her owners decided not to take any risks.

She will return to Australia to be served by an as yet unnamed stallion.
