Mudgee trainer Cameron Crockett has got one of the best horses in his fledgling stable headed for Rosehill.
The 29-year-old has 21 horses in work and they are soon to be joined by about eight more including stable star Barbass, who gave Crockett his first runner in a Group One race in the J J Atkins at Eagle Farm in June.
Moss My Name will represent the stable in the Highway Handicap (1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
"She's very small but she's strong and she's got a big ticker," Crockett said.
"I think on ability she's one of the better horses I've got in my stable.
Working in Moss My Name's favour is the return Jay Ford to the saddle.
Ford rode her to her second win at Mudgee on May 1, which Crockett rates as the best any jockey has performed on Moss My Name in her 17 starts.
"Jay gave her a peach of a ride at Mudgee," Crockett said.
After that win Moss My Name ran at a metropolitan meeting held at Scone where she finished last after falling victim to interference.
"It was a really hard Class Two and she got bumped and knocked around," Crockett said.
"It was pretty encouraging because that was a really hard race.
Crockett believes Moss My Name has shown significant improvement since.
"She's a different horse now," he said.
"I think she's going to have the best preparation she's had."
Crockett is focusing on placing the mare in the most winnable races in a short preparation before she is aimed at richer races next year.
"She might have a couple of nice races in her this time in and go for a good spell," Crockett said.
"Then she'll come back for the Country Championships next year."
With an experienced rider on board, Crockett is content to leave tactics to Ford, but from the widest barrier he is hoping for some cover.
"We're just going to have to hope we can get across somewhere and that something comes from inside us to the front," Crockett said.
Moss My Name is a $15 chance with the Danny Wiliiams-trained Luxury the $3.80 favourite.
