Gold-Fun dies after fall in France

LONDON Aug 8 2016

Hong Kong sprinter Gold-Fun has suffered a fatal injury in the Group One Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville.

A triple Group One winner in Hong Kong, the Richard Gibson-trained Gold-Fun finished second in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot before going to France.

He came down less than 200 metres from the finish line and had to be euthanised.

His jockey Christophe Soumillon limped back and was stood down from his other mounts at the meeting.

The race was won by the Francois Rohaut-trained Signs Of Blessing who finished third in the Diamond Jubilee.
