Brad Davidson preview Rosehill July 13

 Jul 11 2019

Rosehill July 13

Betting strategy

****I’ve decided to offer the two different strategies going forward. The normal strategy will be the same one I’ve been doing since August, the long game strategy will be the 100 unit betting bank idea. I understand that both strategies will suit different styles of punters, so please pick the one that suits you and gamble responsibly.

Normal strategy

Suitable for punters who don’t have a punting bank but rather an allowance to punt with each week. Strategy works on the theory of 1 unit equals $1 and strategies will be from 0 to 150 units max for a meeting depending on confidence for a meeting. Remember, you can still adapt this to your budget but dividing every unit if your budget is less. A few more bets on most occasions will be included here to spread the risk across a race day.

The long game strategy

Suitable for those with a punting bank set aside for punting longer term. This service will reflect more closely the way that I will play a race day and will generally involve less bets and a more patient approach. For those that don’t have a punting bank but prefer this strategy, think of what your maximum bet is on a horse and then divide it by 2 to find out what a unit represents for yourself (our maximum bet in this service will be 2 units). A max 2 unit bet won’t happen too often and I would estimate between 0 to 5 units (could be higher) being spent on one particular race meeting depending on confidence levels.

Normal strategy (125 units)

Race 1 no.5 Lucicello 5 unit win at $7.50 and 15 unit place at $2.40

Race 2 no.11 Monegal 5 unit place at $4.60

Race 4 no.10 Waking Moment 25 unit win at $4.40

Race 5 quinella for 5 units- no.s 3 and 4.

Race 6 no.6 Fuel 7 unit win at $11 and 8 unit place at $3.50

Race 7 no.5 Gaulois 5 unit win at $7.50

22/09/2018       Rosehill 3m        G4         Pretty fair track this. No disadv to be off pace and wide but could win on pace fence first six races at least

2/02/2019         Rose      3m        S7          Pretty fair track re lanes and could run on although on pace slight adv

23/03/2019       Rosehill 3m        H9         A few off fence in run here and wider. Not easy to make ground

1/06/2019         Rosehill 3m        G4         Pretty fair track although got wide last 3-4 races. Fence in run seemed adv but not everything.

Assessment: Rosehill has seemed to have a distinct pattern to get to the middle of the track (particularly wet ground) in the past year or so. Can be hard to make ground in 3m rail but middle of track looks likely place to be.

Race 1

Overview: Happy to be with Lucicello here and I think she is generously priced. She was just fair first-up but she was a different horse when ridden with a sit last start and she can sit off a good speed here and go close. She can overdo it in the run but the likely good early tempo should help her get into a rhythm.  Spend trialled up really well last prep but he is short enough considering we haven’t seen him publicly this time in. Still, Tommy Berry was glowing in his praise of this horse in an interview this week. True Detective looks a nice prospect and has trialled up well. The form out of his debut win hasn’t stacked up but he should run well. Lanigera looks best of the rest.

Advice: Lucicello each-way (more the place)

Confidence: 6/10.

Selections: 5-9-3-10

5.Lucicello ($5)- Led and fair first-up but in good race (2nd and 3rd Snazz N Charm nice horses). Very good rom the back last start QL800,600,400,200 of day. Speed on. Conditions should be fine.

9.Spend ($2.50)- Two trials last time in were good up in speed and won first won well and then second one drifted back, bit green but closed off to score. No trials ths time in? Mum stakes winner 1400m.

3.True Detective ($5)- Won on debut when on best part of track. 3L slower than the fillies and form out of race not great (9 subs st 1 pl). Two soft trials coming in bit keen>?

10.Intrepedacious ($14)- Looked the winner first-up but just peaked last 200m. Race only 3L slower Albumin race day. Fitter- Tickover trial since. Sat up on speed and given easy time that was heavy track. Goes back?

Other runners:

2.Not Feint Hearted ($37)- Soft trial coming in (no bliners)- Blinkers on race day. Won avg mdn WF on debut when sitting wide (9 subs st 2 pl) and then dispap next start/.

4.Belitsa ($22)- Flashed home to just miss against older horses LS on heavy. .2s quicker 1000m MDn on day. Natural imp second up

7.Clever Man ($111)- Dundeel colt- Out back recent WF trial closed off OK no pressure for 6th/7. 740m. trial time just fair.

8.Dream Circle ($74)- Beat older horses LS but time 3L slower 2yp 1000m mdn (tempo related LS). Just held on. This looks much harder.

11.Iconic Star ($19)- Bolted in LS (2L slower Zaniah Cl1 on day). 3rd to Enforcement prior. Now 1100m. 2winners out of race LS.

Race 2

Overview: The one I’m happy to speck a place here is Monegal. I thought she was good against these last time out and she has won up to a mile. I don’t think she was on the best part of the track last start either. The $4.50 to place appeals. Phaistos looks as if he will appreciate the extra trip and a firmer track but he is short enough at $3.10 all the same. He is the horse to beat. Cinquedea has been bolting home in easier grade and will have plenty of admirers here, while Call Me Royal will appreciate a slightly firmer track and will take some running down.

Advice: Monegal to place.

Confidence: 5/10.

Selections: 2-3-1-11

2.Phaistos ($3.20)- Far too good two back then surged late latest. Seemed to hit flat spot and then surge. Would like firmer. 1500m helps. Gets 1.5kg swing on Call Me Royal. Bowman on.

3.Cinquedea ($4.50)- Bolted in last two starts- Goulburn two back-.4s quicker Cl1 1400 day (3rd/4th won since). Latest win 6L quicker 1600m mdn on day but all before 600m. Beat Art Of More 4.6L two back, that horse beaten less 2L Silent Explorer since. Wet +. 1600-1500.

1.Call Me Royal ($5.50)-Nice win LS but 11/10 ride. Got front easy but kept rolling was key. Held them at bay, firmer track would be nice as not at home on heavy LS. 1500m now, up 2.5kg.

11.Monegal ($11)- Always had time for this mare- Disap oin town last prep but won well fresh then not on best ground LS and ran onw well. 2 wins over mile so 1500m should be OK. 2KG swing Call Me Royal. J Duggan ridoing well0

Other runners:

4.Silent Explorer ($36)- Went forward to lead LS and got favours. Figures out of race just fair. Not sure that’s the form line. Sticky gte? Handles wet,

6.Unguarded ($11)- Too good LS where time was .7s quicker orher 1400m race on day (mainly L600 too). 1500m first time. Ear muffs backfired two back. Gets through confitions- Second beaten fav Wed WF

7.Plenty ($13)- Keen going horse- Seems to be relaxing a bit more but still overdoing it a touch. Is that Silent Explorer form strong enough for this? Figures were just fair.

8.Seles ($28)- Set up for her two back when too good from the back (defeating Unguarded-1.5kg swing to Unguarded). Race 4L slower than Unguarded LS.

9.Scenic Sight ($130)- Been good from the back last two but two races set up for her with strong speed and slow last 600ms. This looks to have more depth.

10.Positive Peace- ($130)- Well held LS in race run 4L slower Unguarded. Prefer others.

12.Dundee Lee ($65)- Just fair last couple and needs to improve.

Race 3

Overview: Very competitive Highway. I want to lean the way of Nashian and Zardoro here and I think the latter has been really good of late. He won a Highway two back and then was unlucky last start and should have won. I love the way Nashian found the line last start and he can settle much closer from the better draw here. He also gets a 3kg swing in the weights on Gumshoe. Gumshoe is set to have plenty of admirers again, while Dulette did it tough three wide without cover last start but still won.

Advice: Back both Nashian and Zardoro to win.

Confidence: 7/10 on the two horse play.

Selections: 12-3-1-10

12.Nashian ($4.50)- Too far back from wide draw latest but can settle much closer here. QL200 of race. No luck 1400m Taree prior. Going well and can figure here. 3KG swing on Gumshoe.

3.Dulette ($6)- WNC LS but still too strong. Scratched from Grafton Guineas for this. Wet is fine, 1400m fine. Asasaultnbathroy form ties in through Zardoro.

1.Gumshoe ($5.50)- Good win first-up when speed was on. First crack 1400m but by Shamus Award and mum won at 1400m. Wide draw now? Meets Nashian 3kg worse off. 3.5kg raise in weight.

10.Ester’s Rose ($15)- Beat all bar the subsequent Grafton Guineas winner LS. 4th horse also won since out of that race. Bolted in fresh but didn’t break 40s last 600m there and other B58 was .8s quicker on day. Must respect on wet ground.

Other runners:

4.Galapagos ($9)- Super behind Kolding two back and then just OK last time out. Won Tamworth trial since. 3 winners out of race two back.

5.My Blue Jeans ($61)- Well held behind Zardoro three back Won two back. WNC latest. Not sure form strong enough.

6.Weather Channel ($121)- Blinkers again. Recent form OK but doubt strong enough for this.

7.Electrified ($30)- Jumped well but had to go back wide gate fresh. Ran on OK. Both wins at 1400m. Better for the run and sits closer.

8.Scarlet Missile ($30)- Runner up to The Outcast past two starts. Yet to see wet track and not sure form/figures strong enough.

9.Fortune’s Path ($61)- Only second up but had his chance LS. Needs to lift a few lengths. 2.5kg swing on Dulette.

11.Heaven’s High ($20)- Form around Ester’s Rose. Around the mark at two runs back but this looks to have more depth again.

15.Refire ($40)- knocked up last 200m LS. Only won a mdn to date. Fitter but this looks tough.

16.Fly Forward ($121)- Hasn’t won for  along time and others have more upside.

17.Upper House ($12)- Shock winner LS byt Zardoro was stiff. Wet form doesn’t read that well?

Race 4

Overview: I like the way Waking Moment sets up here. Both her runs back have been super and the key here is she gets in with no weight on her back again. Robbie Dolan is flying and the fact she gets some 8.5kg off Primitivo is a massive advantage. Primitivo is racing well but I don’t think his form is 8.5kg better than Waking Moment’s. High Power looks ready to run well fourth up and she will be finishing off, while Victorian Amerock must be respected and he has been finishing off well from the back at his past couple and found the mile too short last start.

Advice: Waking Moment looks a good bet at $5 each-way.

Confidence: 8/10.

Selections: 10-2-8-3

10.Waking Moment ($3.70)- Two runs back both been really good. Couldn’t beat Toryjoy LS but beat the rest. 51kg on her back, Runs well.

2.Primitivo ($4)- overcame a slow tempo to score LS. 2nd and 5th both won. Racing in good form and gets through conditions. 59.5kg now, up 3kg.

8.Amerock ($12)- Good late at 1600m LS when well back in trip. Found the line well behind Fanciful Toff prior. Will be getting home. 3 winners out of race two back.

3.High Power ($7.50)- Fourth up now- Ran home well back off slow tempo latest. No match Primitivo but wider was better and she was closer to fence. 3kg swing Primitivo.

Other runners:

1.Hogmanay ($43)- just going fairly of late and needs to improve. Most wins top of ground. Concerns horses action LS. Vet clearance received.

4.Dylan’s Romance ($26)- Had to be ridden up to lead LS and faded badly. On best part track two back but won. Good 3 back Gosford, far too good.

5.Semper Fidelis ($11)- WNC last start OK, disapp prior. Should have beaten SYW three back.

6.Devil’s Lair ($43)- Didn’t have a lot of luck late LS but still beaten fair way. Won first-up but just fair since.

7.Ivy’s Court ($26)- Was OK second up where worked into it and faded. Never worked into it LS but run wasn’t as bad as it looked as winner won well. Building.

9.Bringagem ($26)- Coming into it and got stopped in tracks LS. No lcuk. Should have been there somewhere. This is another level but wet track 1900m his go. Avdulla goes on.

Race 5

Overview: Looks a race in two to me between Spiritual Pursuit and Deity. Leaning to Spiritual Pursuit who had the better of Deity last start when not on the best part of the track (they meet on the same weight scale here but Deity was first-up). She loves wet ground and looks the horse to beat. She had to absorb plenty of pressure last start but should get it a touch easier up on speed this time around. The tempo was against Deity last start but she will be fitter again and she will go close third up. The extra 100m should help her. Miss Exfactor looks a distance third pick but this looks to be a race in two.

Advice: Quinella- 3,4.

Confidence: 8/10.

Selections: 3-4-1-12

3.Spiritual Pursuit ($2)- Wide two back and really good, LS in speed battle strong speed kicked and too good not in best ground. 2nd horse won since. Up in weight but claim helps. Wet track big plus.

4.Deity ($5)- Good fresh and then speed against LS but worked home well. Meets Deity level weights from two back when 1.5L off. Runs on.

1.Miss Exfactor ($13)- Better last couple since blinkers went on. Likes wet tracks, runs well.

12.Mocassin Miss ($19)- Good from back LS. 1100M is her go. Always preferred dry for her but last run was good. Always thought more midweek grae but gets in light.

Other runners:

5.Agent Piper ($38)- Soft trial at Muswellbrook- Form from west looks just fair? Never seen anything worse than S5. Fup off decent break?

6.Satin Slipper ($25)- Two trials- soft trials- Keen in first one but settled better second trial. Fup since spring when did little in two runs. 2nd to Sandbar first-up prep prior stakes race. Too much guesswork.

7.Koonunga ($19)- Had chance LS but 3-4 WIDE prior and no luck three back. Still needs to lift.

8.Ellie’s Encore ($51)- Good two back (wide but 1000m no real issue) and then disapp lLS but jumped awkwardly and made heavy contact with another runner. Given hitout when won Mbrook trial well.

9.Gala Moshea ($26)- Bled 1st time during race LS + lame off foreleg. Fup since July 2018

11.1Sebring Express ($51)- Knocked up a bit late after really coming into it. Better for that but class?

Race 6

Overview: Open race but I think I have to be around the two favourites Nahuel and Cyber Intervention at the price. I think they are both progressive but will 1500m be still a touch too short for them? Nahuel won second up at 1900m last prep and Cyber Intervention did win over a mile last prep but they went very hard that day and he made the most of that. Fuel and No Escape both seem generously priced off their last start efforts and I think that’s the right form here. Our Winnie is going better than it looks on paper and is a genuine knockout chance as well. I don’t think Nichochet handled the heavy track last start and his form prior was very good for a race like this (runner-up to Kapajack twice). Love Shack Baby, Curragh, Arraignment and Reflectivity (if it’s a drying track) can all figure.

Advice: Fuel each-way.

Confidence: 5/10.

Selections: 6-10-11-12

6.Fuel ($7)- Backed late LS and almost pinched it with a daring front running ride. Same tactics expected, t/d, similar weight. Capable of that again.

10.No Escape ($9)- Relishing these wet conditions. No shock winner LS really and not best ground either. Up 2.5kg. Similar conditions, same t/d.

11.Our Winnie ($20)- Found the line well 1600m and then got too far back last startbut had QL200 of race. Wet should be OK. Wish it was a bit further. Senior jock on. Going better than it looks.

12.Nichochet ($6)- Struggled in conditions last start. Form prior was sound behind a good one in kapajack. Worth another chance. 1500 no issue. 3KG swing NE.

Other chances:

9.Cyber Intervention ($6.50)- Loved his last 100m first-up and he will be better for that. Won 3rd up mile last prep but went very hard and set up for him. Maybe one more at 1500. Next start 1800?

3.Nahuel ($7)- Speed on to allow him to run on fresh and he did solidly. Extra trip suits. Won 2nd up 1900 last prep. 1500?

8.Love Shack Baby ($8.50)- Good fresh and then stuck on solidly second up. 3kg swing on No Escape. Won 3rd up 1550m last prep. That was dry. Seems to get through ground OK.

Other runners:

1.Curragh ($10)- OK from back LS (4 subs st 1 pl), does like it wet. Just gives them a fair start. 4/6 wins soft ground.

4.Mapmaker ($41)- Struggled on the wet track (jock felt that was the reason for disapp performance). Just battling of late. Drawn wide, speed inside.

Race 7

Overview: Competitive as always the Winter Stakes. I’ve got to lean the way of New Tipperary here and I thought he was good first-up and his second-up record is just too good to ignore. He has had seven starts second up for four wins, a second in the Group 2 Ajax Stakes and his other two second-up runs he had no luck in the Scone Cup and was caught three wide without cover over 1400m at Flemington. Gaulois seems generously priced off the last start win and the low draw is my only issue at this time of the day. Eckstein didn’t have a lot of luck in the Tatt’s Tiara and is going well, while Nicci’s Gold is flying and made the step up to this grade well last start.

Advice: Small play New Tipperary each-way.

Confidence: 5/10.

Selections: 3-5-14-2

3.New Tipperary ($9)- Good fresh when not on best ground. Huge second up record- 7 starts 4 wins 1 second. Includes 2nd in Ajax, other two 2nd up runs, 3wnc at Flem 1400m and no luck Scone Cup- should have won! Improving track should help. 2kg swing on Gaulois. Would prefer extra 100m.

5.Gauloius ($6)- Enjoys these wet tracks- Too good LS nice win. Up 2kg and gate 1 my issue at this time of day. Won twice at a mile so extra distance no issue.

14.Nicci’s Gold ($6)- Super effort when up in grade last start. Gets similar conditions and meets Gaulois 3kg better off at the weights. Gate 4?

2.Eckstein ($8)- Run in the Tiara was very good. Only got pout 250m from home and worked home strongly. Yet to win beyond 1400 but beaten less length Coolmore here 1500m. Won h8 and s6 but runs lately on top of ground.

Other runners:

1.Stampede ($13)- Won first-up last prep on a heavy track 1600m. Now big weght, speed underneath and 1400m fresh?

4.Firsthand ($8)- Had chance on speed latest. Wasn’t a strong tempo and stuck on. Now drawn off the track?

6.Harper’s Choice ($133)- Wait for improvement.

8.Testashadow ($66)- Just fair fresh and second up record came two preps ago 1500m Rhill soft track so can improve but needs to.

9.Boss Lane ($45)- Good effort at Randwick last start. 1200m to 1400m now and all his form is at Randwick? Never won beyond 1250m.

10.Cradle Mountain ($15)- Just fair in two runs this prep. First crack 1400- Has won 1300- slow to recover LS.

11.Goodfella ($13)- Tongue tie 1st time- two trials. Nice effort pushed out to win latest. Yet to place first-up but has good form off freshens- 2nd in Festival 1500m here when basically 3WNC throughout.

12.Sir Bacchus ($22)- Tempo against first-up and then on fence (inferior ground) second up. Tempo against as well.

15.Salsonic ($133)- Just going OK. Prefer drier.

16.Foxy housewife ($267)- Needs to lift.

Race 8

Overview: Tricky race with plenty of chances. Mahalangur pulled p lame last start and can improve off a freshen. He has a good fresh record and this looks within his grasp (low draw late in the day the knock!). River Bird is a deserved favourite on her form to date but this is a whole new level here all the same. I thought Zonk was a touch of overs at $17. The 1200m is probably on her outer limits but she got past Wagner late last start and is three times the price of that horse here. Tonsor should appreciate the step up to 1200m, while Highland Beat, Wagner and Almanzora are all capable. I’m against Southern Lad at $5 and he comes out of a slow rating and form race last start.

Advice: Leaning to Mahalangur.

Confidence: 5/10.

Selections: 1-14-6-12

1.Mahalangur ($7.50)-2/5 lame LS. Freshened- First up form is good and he is more off a freshen. Disapp last two starts but wrong part of track last start. 2nd Star Of The Seas first-up last prep. Back to 1200m? Last two wins 1300-1400,

14.River Bird ($4.40)- Finding a really good groove of late. Up in grade but gets weight relief again. Figures OK last start. Zonk QL600,400,200 than her (35.48              23.48    12.00 v 35.94    23.6812.08- 1100 v1200m thiugh but similar race shapes). Wet no issue. Draws well.

6.Almanzora ($6.50)- Peaked on run first-up where stable somewhat felt might need it. Better for that. Time was much better than Southern Lad race on day- same time first 600m but Almazora’s overall time about 3L quicker than Southern Lad’s. Just gives them a start here.

12.Zonk ($11)- Good effort LS when ridden quietly and closing off strongly. Better for that.  1200 outer limits? Zipped home in good figures LS.

8.Southern Lad ($14)- Racing well although comes through slowest of 5x 1200m races on day LS (includes Hway and 2YO)- 4 subs st 1 pl out of race too. Looks tougher than LS. Was on inf ground LS though.

Other runners:

2.Single Bullet ($23)- Disap up straight Flem LS. Better than that and has turn of foot on day. 1200m? Slow recovery LS.

3.Tonsor ($9)- Seemed to have chance LS but not far away. Better for that. Hasn’t won below 1200 and gets to that journey now. Good figures out of race and back in grade.

4.Highland Beat- ($11) Good win latest in easily quickest of 3 x 1200m races on day. Just a sticky draw now? Rolls forward? Won past two starts good fashion, Wet no issue.

5.Star Reflection ($23)- 4WNC last start. Back to 1200m here. Lieks soft conditions but how well is she going?

7.Fortensky ($136)- One sfot trial off long break. Won 3/5 first-up but well held fresh last prep.

13.Best Guess ($34)- Trialled well on synthetic coming in. Showed good ability early days and then disap recent preps. Off a long break here?

Race 9

Overview: Leaning to Brilliant Choice with the weight relief and he was pretty good in a couple of runs last prep and did beat Nakeeta Jane earlier in his career. We haven’t seen him publicly this spring but the Hawkes stable normally have them ready to go fresh. Handle The Truth had no luck first-up and should improve, while Traumatised looked home the other day and it took the in-form River Bird to beat him. Drachenfels has had no luck at all this prep and looks next best.

Advice: Leaning to Brilliant Choice but he looks short enough now.

Confidence: 6/10.

Selections: 10-7-11-9

7.Handle The Truth ($4.30)- Covered ground first-up and knocked up. Scratched at gates since. Soft trial on Acton track. Won a Hway heavy but still reckon better top of ground. Gate 1 this time of day?

1.Drachenfels ($4.60)- No luck this prep-Should have been in finish prep, just needed extra 100m second up and then back to inferior ground last start. Gives them a big start.

11.Metamorphic ($7)-Scratched several times waiting for drier tracks. How dry is track by this time of day? OK last start but prefer dry.

9.Oxford Tycoon ($8)- WNC last start and can forgive. Had a big weight swing on POT prior. Wet track still an unknown.

Other runners:

2.Thy Kingdom Come ($8)- Two trials no blinkers on. They go on race day. Capable horse. Just faces task drawnw ide speed inside first-up.

8.Jack’s Bar ($8)- Just battled LS but wasn’t on ebest ground. Form prior was sound when defeating BNL.

12.Isorich ($64)- Better LS but still a couple of lengths off the pace.

14.Old Man Sam ($129)-Blinkers OFF AGAIN, Winkers FIRST TIME. Hard to recommend.

15.Roman Typhoon ($64)- Prefer others.
