Blue Diamond Stakes Preview

 Feb 23 2018

This looks one of the most open editions of the Blue Diamond for some time and the market reflects that. Fillies have a solid recent record in the race, winning eight of the past 20 Blue Diamonds, while wide barriers don’t seem to be a huge disadvantage from the 1200m start at Caulfield.

Oohood hasn’t had a lot of luck to date and I like the fact Luke Currie sticks with her here. Ennis Hill brings good form lines to the table having beaten Prairie Fire last start, who came out and won the Talindert at his next start.

Long Leaf is unbeaten in three starts and he can’t do much more than he has done. He will be trained to the minute by the Hayes and Dabernig stable and the booking of Kerrin McEvoy is a big plus.

Run Naan gets the blinkers on for the first time and he was good from the back behind Written By in the Blue Diamond Prelude and can settle closer in the run from the low draw.

Written By also looks a good each-way chance naturally, while Kinky Boom won the Inglis 2YO race in strong fashion and just has to take that form to open two-year-old company now.

Godolphin is airborne at present and there’s no reason Plague Stone can’t be in the finish either. He was caught wide last start and he just has to behave himself in the run because he can still do a few things wrong.

There are other chances too! Very tough race but a 1,2,3,13,16 box trifecta isn’t the worst way to play the race.
