Meadows Greyhound Previews 24/02

 Feb 21 2018

The Group 1 action continues at the Meadows this Saturday night, with week two of the $1.3 million dollar Australian Cup carnival.

Eight heats of the Australian Cup will be contested over the 525 metres, with two heats of the Super Stayers over 725 metres.

The opening heat of the Australian Cup (race 1) sees overall series favourite Poke The Bear draw box 1. The recent winner of the Traralgon Cup, he had no luck from a wide box last weekend in the Temlee and is boxed to win.

Queensland chaser Slick has drawn box 4 after a slashing second in the Temlee and is the logical danger

Heat two of the Aust Cup sees Rookie Rebel victor Dyna Dean (7) dropping back to the sprint journey, with Queensland visitor Opal Nera (8) perfectly drawn; Verne Allen (4) great value, while Bewildering (6) only needs early luck to return to his brilliant best.

Paws of Thunder and Adelaide Cup champ Raw Ability is well boxed in 7 in heat 3, while Mossimo Bale (2), Print The Money (4) and Extreme Magic (8) are also winning hopes.

Aust Cup heat 4 has recent National Derby winner Out Of Range very hard to beat from box 3, with Silver Chief placegetter Benali next door in the 4 can overcome a tricky draw. Brueghelino (1) is drawn to return to his beat and loves the Meadows

In heat 5, Temlee champ Striker Light jumps from box 2 and will be showing sizzling early speed again.

Mystery Ride (1), boom chasers Hecton Bale (3) and Dyna Chancer (4) are other leading chances.

Up Hill Jill gets the gun draw in box 1 in the 6th Aust Cup heat and has been well fancied in the all-in market, while heat 7 is absolutely mouth-watering!

TAB Melbourne Cup victor Aston Dee Bee draws box 2, Silver Chief runner-up Degani will exit the 1, while National Sprint champ Jury jumps from 3 after trialling well at the Meadows last Saturday night.

In the 8th and final Aust Cup heat in-form Big Flood (7) has been well supported and is chasing 4 straight wins, while Rookie Rebel runner-up Chasin Crackers (2) and quick-beginner Kouta Mayhem (3) can advance to the decider on Saturday week.

The first heat of the Group 1 Super Stayers is race 4 and superstar (and Zoom Top winner) Fanta Bale is again the one to beat from box 6. A winner of 8 Group 1s, she can lead OR come from behind and is the second highest-earning greyhound in history with $1.25 million in earnings.

NSW visitors Ebby Ripper (strong finisher) will jump from box 1, with fellow northern raider Simon Keeping is super-consistent and can overcome a tricky draw.

Heat 2 of the Super Stayers is Race 10 and Fanta Bale's kennelmate (and heir apparent) Rippin' Sam is the one to beat from box 6, after storming home for 2nd in the Zoom Top.

Azkaban (4) is chasing a hat trick after 2 slashing wins, while Where Art Thou (2) is always a danger and ran an eye-catching 3rd in the Zoom Top.

WA stayer (and Sale Cup winner) Quick Jagger is another danger and will show early pace, as will Hit The Highway (3).

Also on Saturday night, the Group 2 Bulli Gold Cup final will be run and won, with fastest qualifier Ritza Lenny drawing awkwardly in box 6. Victorian Jimmy Newob draws box 1 again and has a lethal record from the rails, while Qld visitor Precious Sal will be looking at turning the tables on the 1 and recently ran a new track record time of 24 & 86 at Maitland.

Ipswich hosts the final of the Group 3 Vince Curry Memorial maiden on Saturday night, with Fernando Bonus (7) the toughest to beat after setting the time standard with 30 & 32. He is very very strong.

Hara's Flame (4) could be the real danger after winning both career starts. She is on the improve after winning her semi final in 30 & 70 last start.
