Rock and Harry in mighty clash

 Dec 22 2017

Neil King’s stable-star Lil Rockerfeller is an exremely tough campaigner who was a superb second in the Sun Bets Stayers’ Hurdle at this year’s Cheltenham Festival.

He desperately needed his first run back and then fought out a tough win in the Grade 2 Ascot Hurdle. The six-year-old was second behind Unowhatimeanharry in this last year, he loves the track and is in the form to go one better.

Unowhatimeanharry himself has been brilliant since joining Harry Fry winning ten from twelve. He was turned over when third in the Stayers’ Hurdle and ran well enough behind a shock winner in the Long Distance Hurdle last start. He remains a top class stayer and will be a popular favourite.

Nicky Henderson is doubly represented with L’Ami Serge and Thomas Campbell. The latter is progressive and comes off the back of dual handicap wins at Cheltenham but this is now a big step up.

His stablemate L’Ami Serge looks the better bet and will be towards the forefront of the betting. He was second in the County Hurdle at Cheltenham and a Grade 1 winner in France in a fine last campaign. He also ran a big second to Lil Rockerfeller first up, will come on for the run and the extra trip is another bonus.

Gary Moore’s Ubak will be the big outsider but is no forlorn hope of sneaking a place. The nine-year-old hasn’t been seen since his fourth in the Long Distance Hurdle over a year ago but he’s talented and gets the testing ground he loves..

Another veteran Taquin Du Seuil was second in the Coral Cup and fourth in the Grade 1 Liverpool Hurdle last season and resumed with a third at odds in Long Distance Hurdle. He hasn’t won a hurdle for five years but continues to run some big races.

Meanwhile Sam Spinner has won four from six over hurdles and bolted in at Grade 3 level at Haydock. He gets a deserved crack at the best now and loves soft ground.

Live on Sky Racing 1 it’s a fascinating renewal in what will be another big pointer to the Sun Bets Stayers’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
