Glitters can dazzle again

 Nov 2 2017

Lord Glitters joined David O’Meara from France (where he had won both starts this year) for 270,000 euros to run in the same colours as Mondialiste, another ex-French horse who did so well for owner Geoff Turnbull.

The four-year-old immediately made a big impression with a fast-finishing second in the Challenge Cup at Ascot over an inadequate 1400 metres and duly followed it going one better in the valuable Balmoral Handicap on Champions Day at the same track.

That however only tells half the story as not only was this an ultra-competitive renewal of the Balmoral and run in a fast time but Lord Glitters also didn’t get a clear passage and made up a tremendous amount of ground in the final 200 metres for a scintillating win.

The son of Whipper looks a superb replacement for the recently retired Mondialiste and as a horse who looks like he’ll make the grade at Group level he could take an awful lot of beating as he steps out of handicap company to this Listed level.

Catch all the action from Newmarket live on Sky Racing 1 on Saturday night.
