Yuften can land Lincoln

 Mar 30 2017

Roger Charlton's Yuften looks extremely well handicapped and can land the first major handicap of the turf season, the Betway Lincoln, at Doncaster on Saturday night.

Officially rated 116 as a three-year old Yuften was second past the post (demoted to fourth) in the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly back in 2014. Trained then by William Haggas his form gradually regressed and he moved to Ireland to be trained by Johnny Murtagh. After some success at a lower level again Yuften's form went backwards when stepped back up to Listed company. However the now six-year-old moved to Roger Charlton last year and has really impressed in three starts since.

Having been lowered to a mark of 100 by the time he made his stable debut, Yuften showed promise in a narrow defeat when fourth in a bunch finish in a class 2 handicap at Newmarket and he subsequently returned to the winners’ enclosure in an extremely competitive renewal of the Balmoral Handicap at Ascot.

The plan had been to head to the Horses in Training Sales, however after the two runs Charlton persuaded his owners to keep him in training this season and were rewarded immediately when a narrow third in a hot renewal of the Listed sunbets.co.uk Lady Wulfruna Stakes on the all-weather at Wolverhampton.

That was Yuften's first run since being gelded and he flew home after getting quite far back on the turn and in another few strides would have got up.

The son of Invincible Spirit has only been raised five pounds since moving to Charlton and still looks extremely well handicapped on his old form. He clearly retains his ability and with that in mind it's no surprise to see Charlton return Yuften back to this level and target the first major handicap of the turf season.
