Unbeaten filly Fontiton, at $2.20 with TAB.com.au, looks the goods in Saturdays's $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes 1200m at Caulfield. Boasting a three from three record, the Robert Smerdon trained lass shows all the attributes of a worthy favourite and the opposition will be racing for second prize. Fontiton burst onto the scene at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate day winning untouched and from that day stamped herself as a future star.
Her two subsequent wins have been impressive albeit by smaller margins than that of the 6 lengths romp on debut. For good measure she has barrier one.
It's been an interesting week for all concerned with talented colt Of The Brave ($12). Mark Riley who trains Of The Brave is handling the horse on a stay of proceedings following a VCAT appeal late on Tuesday night. Riley and jockey Stephen Baster were both of the opinion that he would be improved following his last start win and if that's the case he will be hard to beat.
Im tipping Fontiton (8) on top to beat Of The Brave (2), Lake Geneva (13) and Pride Of Dubai (7).
In the Group One Oakleigh Plate 1100m, I'll be having a small bet each way on Sydney galloper I'm All The Talk at $17 fixed odds with TAB.com.au. He's first up since October 18 last year but his trials leading into Saturday's assignment have been outstanding. Trainer Gary Portelli believes the four-year-old entire has come back better than ever. Winona Costin rides with the light weight of 52.5 kegs and has drawn beautifully in gate 8.
Earthquake ($5) is the favourite with TAB.com.au and comes off the back of two impressive trials. The Godolphin galloper races well fresh (2 from 3 first-up) and will only carry 50.5 kg. I wouldn't be surprised to see her run a huge race.
I like All The Talk at the price, do your best for the placings.
Dissident is the one to beat in the Group One Futurity 1400m. The Peter Moody trained multiple group one winner showed his class winning the CF Orr stakes at Caulfield over the same distance last start. He is currently $1.75 with TAB.com.au and looks extremely hard to beat.
Smokin' Joey stornmed down the centre of the track last start in the G3 Carolyn Cup over 1600m at Caulfield. If they go like the clappers in front, look for him to be finishing strong once again. The Gai Waterhouse trained Driefontein has been beaten narrowly in her previous 2 starts. She is as honest as the day is long and she'll be in the finish once again.
My selections are Dissident (1) on top to beat Smokin' Joey (2), Driefontein (7) and Entirely Platinum (4).
