We are pleased to announce that Darren Flindell will be the new chief Sydney thoroughbred race caller for Sky Racing and Sky Sports Radio, commencing on-air duties Thursday 19 March at Warwick Farm.
Flindell will take over from Matthew Hill who resigned in December to pursue a career in sports broadcasting.
Being an ex-employee, Darren is already very well known to many of our staff. He joined the casual roster of callers at 2KY, covering country and provincial greyhound and harness meetings and then joined 2KY full time in 1992, as a caller and night time presenter.
In 1995, Darren joined Sky Channel (then a Retail-only channel) to host a new evening program "Late Mail", providing tips for all night meetings covered on Sky. During this period, along with Sam Nati, Darren pioneered a new harness program called "Setting The Pace" which aired live every Friday night before the evening racing began. Darren joined Sky Racing, (then a Pay TV-only channel) in 1997 as a full time night host and hosted our flagship greyhound show, "The Catching Pen" with Mark Duclos.
Darren left SKY in 1999 to join the HKJC, where he has had a distinguished career as the senior race caller since 2007.
