Hong Kong Challengers Have Landed

 May 21 2019

The only overseas guests to contest the $1.5 million Group 1 Kranji Mile (1600m) next Saturday on May 25, the Caspar Fownes-trained Southern Legend (last year’s winner) and the Tony Millard-trained Singapore Sling landed at Changi Airport at 7.40am where Singapore Turf Club veterinary surgeon Dr Brenda Low was on hand to run a quick check on their conditions.

Looking bright and alert, they both passed that first inspection, and two hours later all other paperwork had been cleared. They then boarded the float that would take them to their temporary homes at Kranji.

Upon their arrival, as is the normal procedure, routine urine samples were taken. They also had to undergo an Equine Influenza (EI) test.

“They got off the flight okay. The grooms reported that they travelled well and there were no issues at all during the trip,” said Dr Low.

“They were both well behaved. When they got to the Club around 11.30am, they were again offloaded without any problem.

“Both have settled in nicely.”

Both will now get to enjoy a good night’s rest before they start working the very next day. It was reported that both Southern Legend, last year’s winner of the inaugural Kranji Mile, and Singapore Sling would do trackwork on Sunday morning.
