The Spy Files with Tony Brassel 11/02/2020

Sky Racing’s form expert, TONY BRASSEL, checks out all the slashing trials and eye-catching early morning efforts.

Before final fields are declared, 'Brass' rates his best eight barrier triallers possibly going around in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane this Saturday.

Check out all the trials in the Catch Up section on the Sky Racing website or the Sky Racing Active app.

1. LIBERTINI

(Light Fingers Stakes, 1200m, Randwick or Black Caviar Lightning Stakes, 1000m, Flemington)

Gerry Harvey and his good mate John Singleton have never owned a faster sprinter than this gorgeous filly. Unplaced in two barrier trials at Randwick, the blueblood has been ultra-keen to go quicker. She’ll be doing that wherever Anthony Cummings runs her.

2. REELEM IN RUBY

(Triscay Stakes, 1200m, Randwick)

Four first-up runs and four times in the money for this Snowden-trained miss. Pierro’s daughter was spelled straight after a Group 2 win last November, then zoomed up behind Nature Strip in a trial. Third home and at no stage was the four-year-old let go.

3. NATURE STRIP

(Black Caviar Lightning Stakes, 1000m, Flemington)

Undefeated in two brilliant trials at Warwick Farm this prep and is unbeaten at Flemington. ‘The Strip’ motored down Flemington’s famous stretch to win the G1 VRC Classic and is the equine version of a top-fuel dragster – minus a drag-chute.

4. DAME GISELLE

(Lonhro Plate, 1000m, Randwick)

This filly was a steal for $500k at last year’s Inglis Easter Sale. From just two starts, there’s already $604,000 in the bank account. By I Am Invincible from multiple Group winner Ballet Society, the Snowden juvenile jogged home in a Rosehill trial on January 28.

5. HERITAGE SASH

(Class 3 Plate, 1200m, Eagle Farm)

Ran the fastest of 13 heats at a Gold Coast session last month and was pulling when five lengths clear in the middle stages. Don’t be too harsh on him only getting in by 3 lengths at the finish, he was entitled to get a touch tired.

6. PRETTY BRAZEN

(The Vanity, 1400m, Flemington)

Won a strong Flemington jump-out, hitting the line powerfully. The Sandown Guineas winner boasts a fine record when fresh and Saturday’s Group 3 is well within reach.

7. CASCADIAN

(Southern Cross Stakes, 1200m, Randwick)

This baldy-faced import was hard to miss when fourth to stablemate Bivouac in a Rosehill trial on January 28. Near last in the run, he showed an all-too-rare burst of acceleration on rain-affected turf. He’s a double Group 1 placegetter.

8. CORUSCATE

(Benchmark 88, 1300m, Randwick)

Here’s a test for James Cummings aka ‘Maestro’. The brilliant horseman unleashes this gelding for his first race since December 2018. Two beaut trials suggest a win is possible, especially the last outing. He trialled as well as boom filly Subpoenaed when winning, relegating her into the placings.

UNDER THE RADAR

LADY OF LUXURY

(Lonhro Plate, 1000m, Randwick)

Strong fifth to Dame Giselle in their Rosehill trial after drawing deep and drifting to last. She darted home and ran a top second in a Hawkesbury trial last October. Guess who chased her home in to fourth spot that day? Cellsabeel, the Golden Slipper favourite.
